Traditional neon has a certain romance — the warm glow of gas-filled glass tubes has been synonymous with hospitality, retail, and urban environments for over a century. But the practical realities of glass neon — fragility, high voltage, maintenance costs, and limited flexibility — have made silicone LED neon flex the preferred choice for most modern applications.
What Is Silicone Neon Flex?
Silicone neon flex encases LED strips inside an extruded silicone body, shaped to emit light from one or more sides. The silicone diffuses the LED points into a continuous, even glow that closely mimics the look of traditional neon — without the fragility or high voltage.
Safety and Installation
Traditional neon: Operates at 2,000–15,000V. Requires qualified electricians. Glass tubes are fragile and can shatter. Contains mercury in some types.
Silicone neon flex: Operates at safe 12V or 24V DC. Can be installed by any competent tradesperson. The silicone body is virtually unbreakable and IP67 rated — fully submersible. No hazardous materials.
Design Flexibility
Traditional neon tubes are bent by skilled craftsmen — a specialized skill that limits design options and adds cost. Minimum bend radius is typically 100–150mm.
Silicone neon flex bends freely in any direction:
- Top-bend — bends horizontally, ideal for lettering and shapes
- Side-bend — bends vertically, ideal for curved architectural elements
- 360° round neon — cylindrical profile for rope light effects
- 3D bendable — bends in all directions simultaneously
Minimum bend radius as tight as 20mm on slim profiles. Cut every 25–50mm for precise custom lengths.
Color Range and Tunability
Silicone neon flex is available in single colors, CCT tunable (2700K–6500K), and RGBW controllable via DMX or wireless — far more versatile than fixed-color glass neon.
